From Peru to I Do
It all started when...
Mary Alyce and Brad met on a study abroad trip to Peru during the summer of 2011. With a mutual love of science and outdoors they knew the trip would be a exceptional adventure and would come to realize later that it would also provide the opportunity to meet the love of their life. The two spent four and a half weeks traveling the country, studying its biodiversity and history, and getting to know each other. They soon came to see their relationship as more than just a friendship and upon returning to campus Mary Alyce and Brad quickly started dating that fall. They spent two more years together enjoying the ins and outs of college life and steadily fell in love on the campus of Wake Forest University. Following graduation, Mary Alyce began medical school also at Wake and after a year of work Brad moved to Michigan to pursue a master's degree. But, distance did not keep them apart and in the spring of 2016 Brad returned to Winston-Salem.
Looking for a chance to formally profess his love and ask for Mary Alyce's hand in marriage, Brad came across the perfect moment. On February 6th, the Alumni Office hosted a Deacs in Love event for couples who had met on campus. After a morning of brunch, music, and poetry read by Wake Forest Provost Emeritus Ed Wilson, Brad took the stage and asked Mary Alyce to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes! And the rest of the story is history in the making.
